The 24-year-old was reportedly close to move to CA Bastia.
Nigerian club Warri Wolves say they rejected a bid from French Ligue 2 club to sign midfielder Sunday Mba.
The Corsican club had apparently agreed to splash out €250,000 on the 24-year-old over three instalments spread across 2014 and 2015 only for the deal to hit the buffers when the Wolves withdrew from negotiations.
Mba had already agreed terms and was pictured wearing a Bastia shirt in a local newspaper but will now remain in his home country and has the sympathies of chairman Amaju Pinnick.
“I sincerely felt sorry for the player, but when we couldn’t agree on their proposal we had to pull the plug,” Pinnick told BBC Sport.
“We completely rejected their offer and that’s the end of Sunday Mba proposed move to CA Bastia.”
Despite holding a great desire to further his career on European soil Mba, who who scored the goal that won the African Nations Cup for the Super Eagles earlier this year, was relaxed at missing after seeing the transfer disintegrate.
“I guess Warri Wolves have done everything within their means to try and fix this unfortunate outcome without success,” Mba said.
“This is not the end of the world for me. I can handle this difficult time and hope to continue to explore alternative opportunities out there.
“I must work hard and I know God will make another way for me.”
