Left-back has been selected ahead of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Oman.
Warriors FC defender Zulfadli Zainal Abidin has been called up to the Singapore squad after Shaiful Esah dropped out due to injury.
The 25-year-old was initially overlooked by head coach Bernd Stange for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Oman but the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) confirmed in a press release that he has been selected after Tampines Rovers left-back Shaiful suffered knee cartilage damage, Fox Sports report.
Despite his club side enduring a poor season in the S.League and suffering elimination from both the RHB Singapore Cup and Starhub League Cup, Zulfadli has been a shining light at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium and joins team-mate Hassan Sunny in the party.
He’s continued to establish himself as one of the best left-sided defenders in Singapore after a series of impressive performances and the kind of consistency that Stange will view as an asset to his side as he bids to get their qualification campaign off the ground following a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Jordan in their first match.
However, it remains to be seen whether Zulfadli will be able to nick a starting spot with Lions XII star Hafiz Abu Sujad, veteran Noh Rahman and his Home United cohort Ismail Yunos all capable of filling in at left-back.
