He waited 63 days after signing to make his Chelsea debut, but Alexandre Pato made Blues fans wait just 25 minutes for his first goal.
Pato replaced Loic Remy in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Aston Villa on 23 minutes and then found the net from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.
The conversion of the penalty – which Pato won himself by drawing a foul from Aly Cissokho – exuded confidence.
Pato’s overall performance was neat and tidy. Considering he has hasn’t played competitive football for over two months, this was a fine debut.
However, everything should be taken with a pinch of salt when Villa are the opposition.
The Midlands club, who might be relegated as early as next week, have now conceded 62 goals in 32 Premier League games, scoring just 22 of their own.
