Manchester United and England captain proved his worth as his nation’s main talisman on Sunday by scoring a late winner for Roy Hodgson’s men in a 3-2 victory over Slovenia.
By finding the net in the 86th minute at the Stozice Stadium, Rooney took his England goals tally to 48 – moving him level with Gary Lineker in second place on the all-time list of English international marksmen.
Rooney is now just one goal away from tying with fellow Man United legend Bobby Charlton, who scored 49 times in 106 senior appearances for the Three Lions.
