4. J.T. Barrett, QB, Ohio State
The Buckeyes quarterback has played solid football throughout the entire season, but it’s officially time to label him a serious Heisman candidate. It can easily be argued that he is a better quarterback than Braxton Miller, who was once considered a Heisman frontrunner. Barrett led Ohio State to a road win against Michigan State to put them on the playoff map, and they just recently beat a ranked Minnesota on the road.
Barrett now has 29 touchdown passes, and he has completed 64 percent of his passes, easily making him a better passer than Miller. He has been able to use his legs to his advantage as well with nine rushing touchdowns. If the Buckeyes win the Big Ten, Barrett may find himself at the front of the pack. He’s already on track to be a finalist.
Stats: 2,356 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 64.0 completion percentage; 136 carries, 771 rushing yards, 9 touchdowns
