2. Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
Gordon officially proved that he is the best running back in the country by rushing for 408 yards and four touchdowns against Nebraska and leading the Badgers to a 59-24 victory. The argument that Wisconsin doesn’t win enough games is now gone as they are 8-2 and a top 15 team.
His 408 rushing yards broke the record held by TCU’s LaDainian Tomlinson, who rushed for 406 in a 1999 game. The Badgers haven’t had stellar quarterback play since Russell Wilson left, so Gordon’s production is even more impressive. Leading the nation in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns is not a bad way to campaign for the Heisman.
Stats: 223 carries, 1,909 rushing yards, 23 touchdowns; 11 receptions, 83 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns
