The regular season has come to an end for every college football team except some Big 12 teams. Every other conference has their conference championship game on the horizon.
No. 1 Alabama managed to hold off an upset bid by No. 15 Auburn, and they are set to face No. 17 Missouri in the SEC title game.
No. 2 Oregon also won their final game and will have a chance to avenge a loss to No. 11 Arizona as they face off in the Pac-12 championship.
No. 3 Florida State also held on for a win against Florida to improve to 12-0, but they will face their biggest test yet in No. 16 Georgia Tech.
The Heisman race stayed pretty much the same. However, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett suffered a season-ending leg injury that may derail his Heisman hopes and perhaps even the Buckeyes’ Big Ten title aspirations.
Here are the top five candidates for the Heisman Trophy heading into championship week.
5. Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU
Boykin led the Horned Frogs to another win as TCU now holds a 10-1 record, and all that stands in their way of 11-1 and likely the fourth spot in the college football playoff is a home victory over Iowa State. Boykin threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another against Texas, who had been playing solid defense during a three-game winning streak.
TCU lit them up with 48 points though. However, Boykin may need a signature game against Iowa State full of style points if he wants to lock up a trip to New York. 34 total touchdowns heading into Week 15 game is not a bad way to make a case.
Stats: 3,254 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 59.3 completion percentage; 134 carries, 598 rushing yards, 8 touchdowns
