3. Everett Golson, QB, Notre Dame
Although the Fighting Irish lost their first game, Golson remains one of the most serious Heisman candidates in college football. He has the numbers to back it up, and the Irish still have a 6-1 record. The Irish lost to arguably the best team in the country, and Golson technically threw the game-winning touchdown pass that was called back due to an offensive pass interference penalty.
The Irish defense has struggled in the last two games, and Golson may be swept out of the Heisman race for good if Notre Dame continues to lose games. His status as a Heisman finalist should be safe if the Irish remain a top team though because he has been largely responsible for their status as a playoff contender.
Stats: 1,996 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 61.9 completion percentage; 69 carries, 242 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns
