Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has been left angry and frustrated after manager Arsene Wenger blocked his move to Benfica.
The Portuguese champions wanted the 22-year-old on-loan with the view to signing him permanently for £10m in the future, but Wenger did not want to allow the Costa Rica international to leave.
Yet his agent Joaquin Batica has criticised this decision as Campbell is not being given the first team opportunities that he desires at the Emirates Stadium currently.
“Benfica fought until the last minute to sign Campbell but the operation didn’t happen because, in the last hour, Arsenal decided to keep him,” Batica was quoted by the Mirror.
“Wenger says he did not want to sell him. But if he is not in his plans, then why not allow him to leave?”
Campbell impressed many onlookers over the past 12 months with his performances for Olympiakos during his loan spell in 2013/14 and then for Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
As a result Wenger said the attacker would be given a chance by the Gunners this term, but as yet has made just one Premier League appearance from the substitute’s bench.
The North Londoners bought Campbell from Deportivo Saprissa in his home country in 2011, but he has since been sent out on-loan to Lorient, Real Betis and most recently Olympiakos.
