New Baggies boss targets ‘Rolls Royce’ player.
West Bromwich Albion’s newly appointed manager Alan Irvine has set his sights on landing 23-year old Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell this summer, reports the Daily Mirror.
Irvine feels that the England international is a ‘Rolls Royce’ of a player, and knows him well from his Everton days as Irvine previously worked as part of David Moyes’ coaching staff with the Toffees.
Rodwell has started just seven Premier League games since his big money move to the Etihad Stadium in 2012, and his career has come to a standstill.
While both the midfielder and the English champions would be wanting to part ways with each other, Irvine reckons that any potential deal would not be very simple.
The FFP sanctions on City recently have made them think twice before selling or offloading a home grown player, and the Citizens would also want to recover as much of the £12 million that they invested in him a couple of years ago.
“Jack is a very good player. He has had some injuries but he was a Rolls-Royce as a kid,” Irvine said.
“Manchester City bought him for a huge amount of money so I can’t imagine he is someone who will be available for a small fee.”
