Shannon Hurn has been appointed captain of West Coast for the 2015 AFL season.
Hurn takes over from veteran Darren Glass, who retired during the 2014 season.
The 27-year-old debuted from the club in 2006 and has gone onto play 152 games for the Eagles.
He said he was honoured to be named captain of the club.
“It means a lot to me,” Hurn said. “Obviously it is a great honour to be captain and to lead this playing group, but to be perfectly honest it won’t change me a lot. I don’t imagine I will change the way I play or how I go about it.
“All of the senior players have looked to provide some direction and blokes like JK (Josh Kennedy), Scooter (Scott Selwood), Pridda (Matt Priddis), Eric (MacKenzie) and Lecca (Mark LeCras) will continue to do that.
“It’s an exciting time for our football and we want to be part of drive towards success.”
Coach Adam Simpson said Hurn was elevated to club captain after a player vote.
“The players had a vote and it was pretty clear they thought Shannon should get the job,” Simpson said.
“After Glassy retired we were really impressed with the way all of the boys accepted the responsibility of the captaincy.
“One of the key things as captain is that you have to play well and they all did that.”
