West Ham United are the bookies’ favourites to sign Queen Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin.
The 25-year-old, who scored 18 goals in 35 Premier League games for relegated QPR last season, had been strongly linked with a move across West London to champions Chelsea.
However, the Blues have since moved to sign AS Monaco forward Radamel Falcao on a £7m loan deal, presumably meaning they no longer need Austin.

skyBET and BETFRED both make it odds-on that Austin will be a West Ham player when the transfer window closes.
The move can be backed at 10/11 with skyBET and 4/7 with BETFRED. Meanwhile, Chelsea are available at 11/2 and 7/2 with the respective firms.
West Ham’s most serious rival for Austin’s signature appear to be Newcastle United, who are as short as 7/4 with skyBET.
Newcastle and West Ham certainly need Austin more than Chelsea do, if last season’s goalscoring form is anything to go by. The Magpies netted just 40 goals in 38 league games, while the Hammers notched 44.
Chelsea were not the leading scorers in the Prem – that crown went to Manchester City, who hit 83. However, Jose Mourinho’s champions were second, on 73.
