The England international has not made a single appearance this season after undergoing surgery on his achilles over the summer.
Since his last appearance for Spurs, Harry Redknapp, the manager who signed Parker, has been replaced by Andre Villas-Boas and the North Londoners have added Moussa Dembele to their squad.
Parker is expected to return to fitness in time for the busy Christmas period and it is understood that West Ham have enquired about his availability in January.
Villas-Boas has played Brazilian enforcer Sandro in every league match this season and the Hammers are quietly hopeful that the Portuguese tactician regards 32-year-old Parker as surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.
The former Chelsea and Newcastle star left West Ham after their relegation in summer 2011, having been named the football writers’ player of the year.
The tenacious midfielder had a fabulous debut season with Spurs and was also a key part of England’s solid showing at Euro 2012.
However, it is understood that Spurs are ready to rebuff any approach for Parker in January, with Villas-Boas believing he still has a big part to play in North London.
Parker is not the first former player West Ham have been linked with this summer, with reports suggesting the East Londoners were also tracking Rio Ferdinand of Man United and Liverpool’s Joe Cole.
