West Ham could sign Chelsea’s Demba before the end of the month…
West Ham are interested in recruiting another forward this month, and could turn to Chelsea’s Senegalese striker Demba Ba, reports the Daily Star.
After the recent deal for Liverpool winger Stewart Downing, the Hammers have already made five signings this summer, including Andy Carroll, goalkeeper Adrian, Romania captain Razvan Rat and midfielder Danny Whitehead.
Manager Sam Allardyce will be hoping he new recruits can fire West Ham into the top half of the table.
An ambitious loan, or permanent offer for Demba Ba would see Andy Carroll have some genuine competition, or a potential partner for the forward positions.
The 28-year-old striker hasn’t done terribly at Chelsea, but could fall further down the pecking order behind Fernando Torres, returning loanee Romelu Lukaku and the possibly incoming Samuel Eto’o. Ba proved during hsi first spell at West Ham, and a two year stint at Newcastle that he is more than good enough to start up front for a Premier League side, and could be tempted to make a switch to Upton Park.
Ba did brilliantly at West Ham in 2011 during his short half-season stay, scoring seven times in 12 matches. His goals didn’t help the Hammers stay up however, and he invoked a clause in his contract allowing him to a join a Premier League side for free, and Newcastle duly obliged.
The striker has 42 Premier league goals in 93 appearances.
