Hammer eyeing Southampton’s Rickie Lambert.
West Ham are hoping to end their striker crisis with a staggering £8m bid for 31-year-old Rickie Lambert, reports The Daily Mirror.
Hammers’ co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan are reportedly willing to back boss Sam Allardyce, despite a poor start to the season.
The club will go into Saturday’s matches in the bottom three after failing to win any of their six games in December but have struggled in the absence of a senior striker, with Andy Carroll having missed the entire campaign with a mystery heel injury.
The East London outfit are confident of landing Lambert from Southampton, because the powerful forward wants regular first team football to boost his chances of featuring in England’s World Cup squad and Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino cannot guarantee him playing time at St Mary’s.
Lambert has scored six league goals in 19 appearances for Saints this term.
