West Ham United are close to bringing in versatile Anderlecht player Cheikhou Kouyate as it appears the two clubs have agreed a £7 million fee for the 24-year-old, reports the Daily Mail.
Kouyate has been attracting interest from around Europe, most notably from Spanish giants Valencia, but the Hammers may well have out-done their rivals in the race for his signature.
At 6’4″, Kouyate is an imposing figure who generally plays at centre-back in the Belgian League but can also operate in midfield. He has experience in the Champions League with Anderlecht and also on the international stage as he has won five caps for Senegal.
His move to Upton Park could well be completed in the coming days as Sam Allardyce tries to improve his side after a fairly lacklustre campaign came to an end last month.
Allardyce received plenty of criticism from West Ham supporters last season for the brand of football he delivered.
Kouyate may not be the player to add attacking verve to the starting XI, but he should improve the back-line which regularly features the likes of James Collins and Winston Reid.
