The Daily Express claims that this move puts the Blues ahead of a number of top clubs in the race to sign the talented 25-year-old, who is also wanted by big names such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Liverpool are also one of the clubs to have been linked with the German international several times, while there have also been whispers this week that the Reds are plotting a surprise £25m move for Schurrle as an alternative.
However, this deal could prove to be a double blow for Brendan Rodgers’ transfer plans, with Chelsea cleverly using one Liverpool target to help themselves sign another, thus putting them in a difficult situation as they clearly seek to strengthen a problem position for between £20-25m, which is clearly no easy task.
