The Longhorns made it to the 2003 Final Four under Barnes’ watch, but they were unable to make it past the Round of 32 since 2008.
They entered this season with particularly high expectations as they were ranked 10th to start the season, and they appeared to live up to their hype as they started 12-2.
The team skidded and finished 19-12 though, and they were quickly eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament before losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Butler.
Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall is reportedly looking to seize an opportunity to fill the void in this prestigious job, and he has brushed off Alabama’s interest in him.
Marshall may be the new blood that Texas needs, as he most notably took the Shockers to the Final Four in 2013 when they were a No. 9 seed.
They advanced to the Sweet 16 this season and had finished 35-1 in 2014 before losing in the Round of 32 to eventual runner-up Kentucky.
