Latics are currently on the look-out for a successor to Martinez.
Wigan Athletic want former England head coach Steve McClaren to replace the recently departed Roberto Martinez in the DW stadium hot seat next season, reports the Daily Mirror.
The popular Spaniard has just been announced as.the new Everton manager in succession to David Moyes at Goodison Park, with Latics owner Dave Whelan having reportedly drawn up a three-man short list of possible contenders to take over from Martinez this summer.
And McClaren’s is believed to be one of the trio of names on the list, along with Brighton & Hove boss Gus Poyet and that of former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen.
McClaren, 52, is currently out of work having been dismissed by Eredivisie outfit Twente in February after winning 31 of his 64 matches in charge of the club after returning to the Dutch side in Jan 2012 for a second spell, having previously led them to the title in the 2009-10 campaign.
