It’s another big European night for Wigan Athletic as the Lancashire club take on Group D leaders Rubin Kazan at the DW Stadium.
Both sides are unbeaten in the Europa League so far with Kazan having won both of their ties, whilst Wigan have four points following a 0-0 draw away to Zulte Waregem and a 3-1 home victory over Maribor.
Owen Coyle’s men have been indifferent in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2012/13 campaign, but look strong in Europe currently.
However, this will be their toughest test yet with the Russian club having had plenty of experience in Europe over the past few seasons – reaching the quarter-finals of this competition last year before being knocked out by Chelsea.
Victory for Wigan would see them leapfrog to the top of the group though and with that in mind, former Norwich City captain Grant Holt is set to lead the line.
Holt hasn’t featured in the Europa League so far, but will bring a physicality and eye for goal that the hosts will definitely welcome.
Yet at the back things don’t look as good, with goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi and defenders Gary Caldwell and Ivan Ramis long-term absentees for the Latics.
For the visitors striker Jose Rondon will remain on the sidelines for some time with a broken metatarsal, but other than that there are no new fitness concerns.
