Wild Oats XI has created history with a recored eighth line honours title in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
The 100-foot yacht was first across the line in Tasmania two days after leaving Sydney Harbour to be crowned champions for a incredible eighth time.
The supermaxi’s crew crossed the finish line in a time of two days, two hours, three minutes and 26 seconds.
It gave Wild Oats Xi a 49-minute victory over American-owned Comanche, which was making its Sydney to Hobart debut.
Comanche was fastest out of the heads, but a lack of wind halted the progress of the vessel leaving Wild Oats XI to take advantage and become the most successful boat in the event’s 70-year history.
Third home was American supermaxi Rio 100.
