Legendary Cameroonian forward could be heading to Stamford Bridge…
Samuel Eto’o has fuelled rumours that he could be moving from Anzhi Makhachkala to Chelsea before the end of the month, after admitting he would love the chance to play under Jose Mourinho again, reports the Daily Mail.
The 32-year-old striker could be leaving the Russian club soon, after Anzhi transfer-listed their entire squad, stating a desire to change their financial approach and focus on developing their academy.
Eto’o is currently one of the world’s highest paid players, and Chelsea would seemingly be on the few clubs capable of meeting his astronomical wages. He would likely have to take a pay cut whichever club he joined, but would still command over £100,000-per-week.
The Cameroonian shone under the Portuguese boss during a two year spell at Inter Milan between 2009 and 2011, where he won the treble with the Italian giants. Eto’o has worked with Pep Guardiola and Guus Hiddink, but reckons Mourinho is the best manager he’s worked with.
“There is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches but there is no other character in the game like Jose,” Eto’o said.
“He is one of the best coaches in the world – and we had a lot of success together at Inter. I would like to have the chance to play under him again – because it is never boring when Jose is around.”
The Cameroonian legend also spoke highly of Chelsea as a club, but will wait to see every offer he recieves before deciding where his future will lie.
“Of course Chelsea are a great team – and when we have all the offers on the table then I will discuss with my agent and see what my next step is.”
If Eto’o arrived, he would compete with Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba for a starting spot at Stamford Bridge.
