Group B of the 2014 FIFA World Cup has drawn to a close, with The Netherlands emerging as group winners and Chile being the surprise package who made it through in second place at the expense of reigning champions Spain.
With Australia, the final team in the group, having impressed many with their performances as the underdog despite not picking up a point, the job of picking a best XI from the group is a tough one. We’ve gone through the teams and the matches, however, and come up with the definitive World Cup Group B best XI.
GK) Jasper Cillesen (The Netherlands)
With Australia ‘keeper Matt Ryan and Spain stopper Iker Casillas both having made decisive errors, the goalkeeping position was between Holland’s Jasper Cillesen and Chile’s Claudio Bravo.
The Ajax man just got the nod, with a vital stop from David Silva when the Oranje were trailing to Spain being a stand-out moment, but all three of Cillesen’s displays were assured and dominant.
