The injury to Real Madrid ace Jese Rodriguez in Tuesday night’s Champions League tie with Schalke 04 has been described by Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque as ‘terrible.’
It means that the youngster will be sidelined for six months and ends any chances of playing at the 2014 World Cup, but the Spaniard is not alone.
Here are eight other players that look set to miss the tournament due to injury.
Alvaro Arbeloa – Spain
The right-back may not be the most important member of the world champions’ squad, but two European Championship and one World Cup winners medals are testimony to Arbeloa’s consistency in the team.
The 31-year-old injured his right knee in the Madrid derby earlier in March and although the initial prognosis wasn’t too bad, the defender will now miss the rest of the season and probably the tournament in Brazil.
