Swiss playmaker hints that he is still committed to Bayern Munich…
Liverpool’s prime target and Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has refuted speculation that he is well on his way to joining the Reds this summer.
The 22-year old is contracted with the Bavarians until 2016, and has assured the German club’s fans that there is no reason to believe media rumours linking him to a switch.
There have been several reports claiming that the youngster is not satisfied with the game time he has been getting under Bayern boss Pep Guardiola and that he is angling for a move away, but he has clarified his stance on the matter by stating through his facebook page, “It is the time of year when much is written, but as we all know, there is very little truth behind it. As you all know I am currently on holiday so I am not in talks with other clubs nor have I spoken with any journalists. I have a contract with FC Bayern until 2016. My advisors are in regular contact with the responsible people at FC Bayern so there is no reason for speculation.”
Liverpool have emerged as top suitors for the Swiss as Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is known to be an admirer of him, but any switch to Anfield seems rather far away at the moment. Shaqiri already has 32 caps for his national team and is a central figure in their side, but he was restricted to just 26 appearances for Bayern last season.
