Italian midfielder enticed by the success of Alessandro Del Piero at Sydney FC.
World Cup winner Mauro Camoranesi is reportedly keen join fellow Italian Alessandro Del Piero in the A-League next season.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald the Camoranesi is fancying a stint in Australia after seeing ex-Azzurri and Juventus team-mate Del Piero flourish in his first year at Sydney FC, although the 36-year-old’s wish doesn’t look as if it will come true.
However, due to the leisurely response of club’s Down Under the veteran midfielder now looks poised to leave current employers Racing Club and put pen-to-paper on a contract with Major League Soccer franchise instead, dashing his dreams of reuniting with Del Piero.
Back in 2006 the pair were key figures in Marcello Lippi’s side that were crowned World Champions in a memorable penalties victory over France in the final.
Another player rumoured to have a preference to ply his trade in in the A-League is former England striker Carlton Cole. The 29-year-old is a free agent after being released by West Ham earlier this summer and, despite having a number of clubs closer to home chasing his signature, Cole is believed to have his heart set on a move to Australia’s elite division.
