Liverpool are splashing cash like it’s going out of fashion.
The Reds have already made five signings this summer – James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez and £29m striker Roberto Firmino, while Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne is poised to arrive for £12.5m very shortly.
Last night, Liverpool, who are expected to sell Raheem Sterling for close to £50m, were linked with a £25m bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

Belgium target man Benteke, who has a £32.5m release clause in his current contract, has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Arsenal recently.
After hearing the news that their club were making a hefty offer for Benteke, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to protest.
It seems that many Reds supporters really don’t want him…
Why are #LFC thinking of spending 30m on Benteke when they could spend a tenner on Emile Heskey and get the same kind of player ?? #LFC

In the 2013/14 season Benteke contributed 12 goals/assists for Villa while Balotelli contributed 20 for AC Milan. #lfc — Anfield Chat (@TheAnfieldChat) June 26, 2015
One should not moan about Benteke because he is “Not that Bad” This is the new thing for LFC fans.

Balotelli and Benteke are two very similar players, but played in the right system I genuinely believe Balotelli is the better player. #lfc — Anfield Chat (@TheAnfieldChat) June 25, 2015
Who would you rather see in an #LFC shirt next season? RT For Balotelli. FAV For Benteke.

Really hope Villa don’t lower the asking price for Benteke. No point of Firmino & Coutinho when you have someone who just stands there. — MrBoywunder (@MrBoywunder) June 25, 2015
Liverpool would still look to add another recognised striker if the right deal was there. Benteke a genuine target. But not at £32.5m #LFC
