Shorts spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jaguars after being selected by them in the third round, and he will now play for an AFC South rival.
Longtime Pro Bowler Andre Johnson was released by the Texans, so Shorts will give the Texans a legitimate weapon across from rising star DeAndre Hopkins.
He set career highs in 2012 with 979 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches, showing that he can be a productive receiver with quarterbacks like Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne throwing to him.
The Texans still have many questions to answer at quarterback, but Brian Hoyer has been signed while Ryan Mallett showed some promise in his limited time as a starter in 2014.
Pro Football Talk announced Shorts’ decision to sign with a division rival on Twitter.
