At WrestleMania XXXI, WWE superstar Seth Rollins shocked the world by cashing in his Money in the Bank to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Brock Lesnar.
With the defending champion Lesnar and challenger Roman Reigns beating each other literally to a bloody pulp throughout the duration of the contest, Rollins – who had previously indicated that he could cash in his Money in the Bank contract to guarantee a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match – insert himself late into the match to make the contest a Triple Threat match for the title.
After kicking the weakened Lesnar out of the ring, Rollins hit a Curb Stomp of Roman Reigns to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship – his first ever singles title.
Lesnar, who won the title at Summerslam back in August from John Cena, recently signed a contract to stay with the WWE as opposed to returning to MMA, where he was a dominant force for several years before returning to professional wrestling in 2011. With a new contract in hand, one can expect that The Beast Incarnate will stick around and try to get his title back from the thief Rollins.
But for the first time since Randy Orton lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX, the world title is now back in the hands of The Authority – for now at least.
