“The Architect” Seth Rollins probably won’t have a legitimate challenger for his WWE Championship until Brock Lesnar returns.

WWE has plenty of talent but nobody legitimately worthy of taking the titles away from Seth Rollins and John Cena. Between Rollins’ inescapable grasp on the title thanks to his alliance with The Authority and John Cena’s unfailing efforts to overcome literally any challenger whose name doesn’t rhyme with “Rock” – not to mention the fading into oblivion role of Daniel Bryan – WWE simply doesn’t have anyone left who poses a credible threat to overcome the odds and beat either one of them.
Watch as Cena and Rollins face what seems to be a tough challenge at the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, only for them to saunter off after a win with both of their titles intact.
Here’s look ahead at the match card for tonight’s WWE Pay-Per-View event “Payback”:
1. The Meta-Powers (Curtis Axel and Macho Mandow) vs. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) in a Tag Team Match (pre-show)
How in the world Axel is finally back on a PPV card after spending the better part of the last few years as a barely intimidating punching bag is odd, but now that he’s teaming up with one of the ascending fan favorites in “Macho Mandow” (formerly known as Damien Sandow, Damien Mizdow and others) it could open the door for Axel to climb the ladder for the first time in forever.
The Ascension hasn’t made any noise at all since January besides being beaten by the Prime Time Players, which promptly relegated them to the bottom of WWE’s stacked tag team division. Could this match be a chance for them to return to legitimate contention in the tag team division? Unlikely.
Prediction: The Meta-Powers win – The sum may not be as good as its parts, but Axel and Mandow have been at their best in tag team action, albeit with very different partners. Ultimately, Mandow will continue his rise by scoring a pin over Viktor while Axel takes out Konnor from the outside.
