Ivory Coast manager Sabri Lamouche says Yaya Toure is doubtful for World Cup opener.
African Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure is in doubt for Ivory Coast’s opening World Cup match against Japan on Saturday.
The 31-year-old is still struggling to overcome a hamstring injury he sustained during Manchester City’s title deciding win over West Ham United on the final day of the Premier League season.
Ivory Coast manager Sabri Lamouchi said Toure was touch and go for the Japan match in Recife.
“He finished the season injured and worn out,” Lamouchi said.
“He has not yet resumed team training and has to undergo a rehabilitation program.
“We are going to do everything in our power so that he will be able to start or at least come on during the game against Japan.”
The loss of Toure would be a huge blow to Lamouchi’s side, who face a strong Japan team along with Colombia and Greece in Group C.
