6. Gus Poyet – Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Poyet become the first Uruguayan to play in the Premier League when he joined Chelsea’s multinational revolution in 1997. On the opening day of the 1999-00 season, he scored one of the best goals English football has ever seen, as he latched onto a hooked pass from Gianfranco Zola and sent a stunning scissor-kick volley beyond Sunderland goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen. In total, Poyet scored 36 goals in 105 top-flight appearances for Chelsea, before moving to Spurs, for whom he netted 18 in 82 outings.
