Brazil star needs to fatten up this summer, say his bosses in Spain.
Brazil playmaker Neymar has been told by his new club FC Barcelona that he needs to put on some more weight before the start of the new Liga season as currently the Catalan giants think the super star is too thin, reports the Daily Mail.
The Spanish champions finally bought the skilful Brazil international from Santos for a whopping £50 million on a five-year deal earlier this month after years of protracted negotiations between the two clubs.
However, the Barca doctor Ricard Pruna has since suggested that the 21-year-old needs to beef up a bit during the close season if the player is to withstand the rigours of the Spanish top flight.
“My first impression is that Neymar needs to gain a pound or two. Our medical inspection was done quickly and his weight is just another data point,” Pruna told the club’s official website.
“We’ll get to know the player over the course of the season and we’ll constantly add to our data input. With this information we’ll know what his ideal weight should be.
“The first impression is that he weighs 64.5 kilos and he has a tendency to lose weight. Perhaps he needs to add a kilo or two, but I can’t say exactly how many.”
Neymar, who is currently back in his homeland competing in the Confederations Cup with Brazil, comes to Europe with an enormous reputation to fulfil having netted an astonishing 136 goals in just 225 matches for Santos in the previous four years.
