Lions XII Coach to take Singapore squad to Malaysia
Lions XII Coach, V Sundramoorthy will be hoping to use local knowledge to his advantage as he takes charge of the Singapore U23 squad in the Merkeda tournament.
Lions are current Malaysian Super League Champions and also finished second in 2012, they are the only Singaporean side to currently play in Malaysia.
Teams are using the matches as preparation for the South East Asian Games which will be hosted in Myanmar in December.
The Merkeda Tourament, which is held in honour of Malaysia’s National day has been revived this year after a five year absence.
It was last played in 2008 when Vietnam U23’s took the crown in a tense penalty victory over hosts Malaysia.
The tournament begins on Saturday, With Young Lions taking on Harimau Muda( Malaysia U23), they then face Thailand on the 9th and Myanmar on the 11th September.

Speaking to Goal Singapore Sundramoorthy said: “I am pleased that the boys are given the opportunity to play in this tournament as it will provide excellent exposure for them ahead of the SEA Games.
“This is vital to the development of our youth players and the experience that the Under-23 players will gain from the Merdeka Tournament, as well as the international friendlies, will only further enhance their progress as players.”
