Memphis star plays just eight minutes as his side loses to New Orleans.
Memphis forward Zach Randolph left the Grizzlies’ game Wednesday night against the New Orleans Pelicans when fiancee Faune went into labor.
Randolph played 8 minutes of the first quarter and hit his only shot before leaving the arena in the second quarter.
By the middle of the third quarter, the Grizzlies announced that Randolph made it to the hospital just in time for the birth of a healthy boy, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces.
But it was not such news for the Grizzlies who would have benefited from having the power forward in the side late in the fourth quarter.
Across the board there was not much separating the teams in terms of pure stats, except for rebounds, where New Orleans won the game 39-29.
Those extra ten possessions made the different in the end as the Grizzlies continue to struggle to get going early this season.
The Grizzlies will next be in action on Sunday when they tackle the in-form Golden State Warriors at home while the Pelicans will lock-on to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.
However, the Grizzlies went on to lose 99-84 as they lost their third game of the season to see their record drop to 2-3, which see them equal last in the Southwest division, tied with the Pelicans.
