Formula 1 heads to Suzuka for the third round of the season, the Japanese Grand Prix, from April 4-6. The race marks a significant moment for Yuki Tsunoda, who will make his home debut for Red Bull after replacing Liam Lawson in a mid-season driver swap. Lawson returns to Racing Bulls after just two races with the senior team.

McLaren has dominated the season so far, with back-to-back victories—Lando Norris winning in Australia and Oscar Piastri securing victory in China. Norris currently leads the drivers’ standings, eight points ahead of Max Verstappen. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton won the sprint race in China but was later disqualified from the main event, along with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, due to technical infringements.

Weather forecast for the Japanese GP

Friday and Saturday are expected to be sunny, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 16°C. However, there is a chance of light rain on Sunday morning, though conditions are expected to be dry by the race start at 06:00 BST (14:00 local time). The temperature could rise to 17°C during the race.

Why has the Japanese GP moved to April?

The Japanese Grand Prix was shifted to April in 2024 as part of F1’s efforts to streamline its calendar and improve sustainability. It is now scheduled alongside races in Australia and China, reducing long-haul travel. Previously, the race was held between September and November.

With McLaren looking to extend their winning streak and Tsunoda aiming to impress at home, the Suzuka race promises to be another thrilling chapter in the 2024 season.
